Why We’re Here

The Provost’s Teaching Fellows envision a UT Austin campus that embraces creativity, innovation, and a passion for teaching and learning that complements its mission to advance knowledge through research. Our program is housed within the Center for Teaching and Learning in the Office of Academic Affairs.

Who We Are

Provost’s Teaching Fellows are dedicated, community-minded faculty committed to enhancing teaching practices and campus culture. The program includes over 40 Fellows across most Colleges and Schools. The community consists of three types of Fellows:

  • Teaching Fellows: Members focus on individual initiatives aimed at improving their teaching practices and fostering a culture of innovation.
  • Senior Fellows: Members who mentor Teaching Fellows, offer guidance, and support program leadership, event planning, and working groups.
  • Alumni Fellows: Former Fellows who continue to support PTF activities and facilitate Think Tank discussions.

What We Do

The PTF program empowers faculty to advance education through two primary avenues:

  1. Individual Initiatives: Each Teaching Fellow, advised by a Senior Fellow mentor, undertakes a project to enhance teaching and learning in their classroom, department, and College.
  2. Program Activities: Fellows engage with one another through a variety of activities throughout the year, including monthly meetings, a Summer Lunch Series, subcommittees, and the annual PTF Showcase.
  3. Campus-wide Events: Fellows spearhead and participate in events that benefit the entire campus, including:
    • New and Early Career Faculty programs, in collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning, which build on a decade of "Day Zero" events and resources for new faculty
    • Teaching Tips, monthly messages sent to all UT faculty with ideas and tools they can use in their classrooms
    • Texas Teach-Up, a university-wide peer observation event which brings instructors from all colleges and schools together to celebrate and reflect upon their teaching practices
    • Think Tanks, a series which invites instructors to discuss problems and tackle tough topics in a safe environment among a diverse group of fellow instructors
