Join Dr. Matt Russell (Faculty Innovation Center) on Wednesdy, May 13, 3pm, for a demo and Q&A with Brian Moon, Chief Technology Officer of Perigean Technologies.  This demo will showcase Sero!, an alternate assessment tool that provides automated grading of student work in filling out concept maps.  Sero! is being developed such that it can function within Canvas.

Dr. Russell has secured a external grant (with colleagues from the School of Information at UT-Austin as well as the University of Michigan) to pilot and provide feedback on the use of Sero! this upcoming year, so he will be soliciting interest from interested instructors who may wish to receive a grant for implementing Sero! in one or more of their classes.

Sero! is a concept mapping-based assessment software tool. Concept maps are diagrammatic representations of knowledge that have been shown to be effective at facilitating learning for almost 50 years. They show the ‘content’ and ‘structure’ of people’s knowledge and understanding – and thus offer opportunities for assessment.

How It Works

Sero! uses concept mapping processes to create assessment tasks built against MasterMaps that capture standard, generally agreed-to, or expert knowledge – that is, facts, reasoning, and conceptual relationships.
