
Educational Consultant, Technology-Enhanced Learning
Matthew Russell is an Education Consultant in the CTL and holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature. He works with faculty to support the use of technology in teaching, learning, and research. In the CTL, he is the main contact for supporting the use of educational technologies. He has developed the CTL's Generative AI in Teaching and Learning online toolkit. In addition, Matthew leads the Students-as-Partners initiative, focusing on supporting teams of faculty and student in exploring innovation across the curriculum. At his previous institution, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Matthew was a faculty consultant, lecturer in Comparative Literature, and founding co-director of the UWM Libraries Digital Humanities Lab, where he developed numerous digital humanities and archival projects. Matthew currently teaches courses in moral and political philosophy, epic literature and drama in the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Study of Core Texts and Ideas at UT-Austin.
He has presented at numerous conferences, delivered workshops, and published research. He has also been awarded grants for the use of instructional technologies and strategies. Currently, he is supported by and working with faculty in the Cockrell School of Engineering on a multiyear grant funded initiative (National Geospatial Intelligence Agency) to develop online educational materials derived from geodesy research in Cockrell. In addition, he is working with an international team on a grant project exploring the application of AI in adapting successful health policy to varying cultural environments through a Macatee Grant (2025-26). He is also a part of an Erasmus grant funded project that is developing online resources for teachers to design hyflex courses using AI tools. Email Matthew.
