We’re excited to welcome Ligia Gonzalez as the new Project Coordinator at the UT Austin Center for Teaching and Learning. Q: Can you share a bit about your professional background before joining UT Austin?

A: "My background is in film production. I graduated from The Los Angeles Film School in the summer of 2018 and decided to take a leap of faith and do the whole freelance thing. I specialized in the Art Department (set decoration, prop mastering, set building, etc.) and was lucky enough to get in really awesome projects that made it to film festivals.

Honestly working in that field is where I got most of my project coordination/management experience. There were tons of logistics, budgeting, and team management involved. In 2020, I decided to move to Texas and explore project management more deeply as a career path after I realized I didn't love being on set for 14+ hours, being away from my pets for that long, and not having full certainty when I would work next.

That's when I found Creative Action and where I was for these past three years as a Program Coordinator for their Interactive Theater Programs. Through that job I realized how much I love collaborating and contributing to education in whatever capacity possible and naturally this curiosity led me to find my current position at CTL."

Q: What aspects of your role as Project Coordinator at CTL are you most excited about?

I am looking forward to expanding my skills as a project manager as well as to offer creative and fresh perspectives to the position and the team. I am also excited to collaborate with the CTL folks to build an ever-growing, easy and solid process that honors and recognizes how special our UT Faculty Teaching Awards are and everyone involved in them. However, that goes with any and all projects that I'm part of in this new position.

Q: Outside of work, what are some of your favorite hobbies and interests?

My favorite hobbies are thrifting, thrifting and thrifting. Just kidding, I enjoy other things too like, reading, trying new coffee shops and changing up the decor around my place! I play Rugby and I'd say that is a major part of life and one of my biggest interests. A lot of my friends are from the team and we do fun things together quite often. I also love to spend time with my pups and bring them anywhere I go if possible!
