We are so grateful to the Provost's Teaching Fellows for leading these sessions! Shout outs to Veronica Young, Steven Finkelstein, and Madeleine Redlick. You can watch recordings of the first two sessions which covered student engagement and collaboration, while the third focused on lectures. Next up: Dr. Jessica Toste helps us think about leading graduate student teams this Friday, Apr.10.

Connect and Reflect

Join PTFs Stephanie Holmsten and Jen Moon on Friday afternoon (4/10) for a time to push pause and connect in the midst of this transition. Collecting Lessons Learned in the Transition to Remote Learning takes place on Zoom at 3:00. Please RSVP and submit thoughts and questions ahead of time! What have you experienced on this journey so far?

Graduate Student Instructors

Graduate student instructors are so critical to the university's mission, and we want to ensure their needs are front and center during the campus response to COVID-19. CTL held two peer-led support sessions, and you can watch the recording of "Streamlining Student Communication". Shout outs to Jendayi Dillard and Kaitlyn Farrell Rodriguez for their leadership! Also, don't forget our specific resources for these instructors.

Digital Divide: Impact on Students

We are grateful to Evangeleen Pattison, Ph.D (Curriculum Specialist for Academic Initiatives, Independent Inquiry & Quantitative Reasoning Flag, School of Undergraduate Studies) for presenting "Instructional Continuity and the Digital Divide: Taking a Student-Centered Approach to Online Teaching" on April 2. Here is the recording if you were unable to attend. This slide deck contains additional resources that were added after the session.

Technology

Panopto is now available! CTL & our partners in the iSchool are delivering many 30 minute sessions where you can learn more! See the calendar for upcoming times this week and next. More about this tool:

  • Panopto is a powerful new web-based video capture solution that is integrated within Canvas.
  • Panopto is designed for recording content, such as online lectures, webcam videos and screencasts, or for hosting content created elsewhere.
  • Panopto supports captions and interactive transcripts, allowing students to search spoken words and PPT slides.

Save the date! Making Interactive Timelines with ClioVis (4/16)

ClioVis, developed by Provost Teaching Fellow Erika Bsumek, enables users to combine the best features of timelines, mind mapping, and network visualization tools to help users collaborate on projects, better understand and organize their research materials, and present their findings to external audiences.

In addition, visit the Canvas Training Center for many recently recorded sessions covering Gradescope, Canvas, & Zoom.

11am-2pm

RSVP

In order to continue building community while maintaining social distancing, the Inclusive Teaching and Learning Spring Symposium will take on an alternate form. Over the course of this extended virtual brown-bag lunch, we will explore and discuss topics based upon the following questions:

  • How can we continue to center inclusivity and advocacy in our virtual learning environments?

  • What does Socially Distanced community building look like?

  • How can we continue to create spaces for our students, faculty, and staff that are focused on diversity, equity, access, and inclusion?

If you would like to participate in the Mini-Symposium, please RSVP here. We will be sending out the participant link 2 hours in advance of the session to all who have registered.

If you have any questions, requests for accommodations, or other concerns, please reach out to Sarah Schoonhoven.
