Interprofessional education (IPE) is an essential component of all healthcare training and has a growing role in the UT College of Pharmacy curriculum. Additionally, the use of simulations in IPE can provide students with real-world, real-time scenarios that can help build interpersonal skills and pharmacotherapy knowledge in students. The addition of a high-fidelity mannequin (HFM) simulation with multiple healthcare professional students can provide a strong learning environment to foster the development of effective communication skills and refine the student's critical thinking process. Completing pediatric high-fidelity mannequin IPE simulations can also help expose students to more pediatric experiences, which are typically less available given the robust curriculum each profession must complete.

This project aims to produce a framework for creating and continuing new IPE simulation experiences across the pharmacy curriculum. The goal is to create pediatric high-fidelity mannequin simulation experiences for pharmacy, medicine, and nursing students with the opportunity to expand into other applicable healthcare fields as the program grows. The program will also include the assessment of student performance in these activities with a focus on interprofessional communication and teamwork within a simulation.
