Connecting Course Coordinators

This project aims to increase educational equity in large, multi-section undergraduate courses by supporting the faculty who coordinate them. These courses often serve diverse student populations and are foundational to many degree programs, yet variation across instructors and assessments can lead to uneven student outcomes. While playing a critical role in maintaining consistency across sections, course coordinators often face challenges such as balancing instructor autonomy and navigating differing faculty perspectives.

"Connecting Course Coordinators" will establish a professional learning community of coordinators from across the university to share strategies, evaluate best practices, and develop a set of evidence-based recommendations. Beginning with a literature review and recruitment of faculty who serve in either formal or informal coordination roles, this project will build a working group of coordinators who can connect with and learn from each other in monthly meetings. Discussion topics for these meetings will be informed by research as well as coordinators’ experiences shared during a kick-off workshop.

The primary outcomes of the project will include a set of shared resources and best practices hosted on a Canvas sandbox site as well as a strengthened network of coordinators who can continue to support one another after the project concludes. By fostering collaboration and providing practical tools, this project will empower course coordinators to lead more effectively and equitably. It also has the potential to impact thousands of students across disciplines by promoting more consistent and inclusive learning experiences.
