PTF Layla Guyot presented a session at Open Data Day in March 2024, hosted by the Austin Public Library. This event was part of International Open Data Day, which celebrates open government data with events hosted around the globe. Guyot presented about promoting the use of a local open data portal for data science projects with her collaborator, former student/current UGCA Dustyn Ransom.

The event was organized by Open Austin, which addresses local social and civic challenges through creative uses of technology.

Local governments like the City of Austin produce masses of data, which are available to the public and free to use.

At Open Data Day Austin, local residents will collaborate to explore the resources available to us, identify data sets of interest, and construct tools and visualizations around that data. Activities will include learning sessions as well as hands-on hacking.

The event is free, open to the public, with advance registration requested. Whether you are already knowledgable about open data or want to learn more about it, you'll find something of interest at Open Data Day Austin. Bring your laptop and be prepared to hack on data.
